Does thermal radiation or black body radiation indicate anything about a object's matter?

I know thermal radiation and black body radiation are not tangible, at least in the sense I understand them. But do neither express anything about the..."matter" of the object?

In data are the two at all related? What is the relationship?

Now, I think I'll go to sleepDoes thermal radiation or black body radiation indicate anything about a object's matter?
Yes, spectral emissivity variations are indicative of the composition of a material.

All objects above absolute zero emit radiation in proportion to their temperature and emissivity.

Emissivity is a measure of the efficiently with which a body radiates it energy. It is an intrinsic material property, independent of temperature, and is defined as the ratio of the radiance emitted from an object to the radiance emitted by a perfect BB at the same temperate as the object. The emissivity of a BB is 1 at all wavelengths and is always less than one for real materials. Wavelength-dependent (or spectral) variations in emissivity are a function of what the material is made of and its arrangement of atoms.Does thermal radiation or black body radiation indicate anything about a object's matter?
matter atoms give off electro magnetic energy light, radio etc when electrons change energy state

a spectrum does indicate the kind of atom by the pattern of the lines. Helium was discovered in the spectrum of sun light before it was found on earth

Black body is some what different it is e_m given off by the MOTION of the whole atoms due to heat and measured as temperature. the Black Body energy curve is determined by advanced physics but by knowing its peak or most intense frequency the temperature of the body can be determined

No real object os a perfect "black Body" it is called "black because it absorbes all E-M exactly as it radiates the e_m

I have seen films of a pottery kiln. the open door is the Black body viewer. the inside walls glow brighty and the cups are darker. as the temperature of the cups reaches exactly the temp of the walls the radiation is the same from both and the cups inside DISSAPEAR

pretty cool ( or actually pretty hot)

keep learningDoes thermal radiation or black body radiation indicate anything about a object's matter?
Richard has the gist of EMR and particle interaction.

Black body are bodies that resonate at lambda greater than that of light.

Carbon is a black body. It absorbs all radiations, upto infrared, and then radiates infrared EMR, which we humans perceive as heat. This is a reason for Global warming phenomenon.

All EMR travel in the Z-axis in the Universe, and they travel along a curved path. The exception is the EMR of gravity, called "Graviton", which travels in straight lines, and is emitted from the Center of Gravity of a body, or the nucleus of an atom.

As Richard said, when it comes to EMR of black body, the atom oscillates as a whole. This is because the lambda of the radiation and the diameter of the atom are generally same or related by multiples of the lambda.

Take a turbo-gyro-oscillator. Gravitons interact between nucleii of atoms in a linear Z-axis, causing numerous ripples on the surface of the atoms (the outermost electron torroid potential), and cause attraction due to ciliary motion action from the ripples, just as in the lower animals of phylum ciliata.

Gamma radiations are destructive to the atom, and so are x-rays.
UV rays, visible light cause reflection of visible light.
Infrared radiations cause sensation of heat.
Microwaves cause atomic oscillations, a property used in ovens for heating water by causing rapid oscillation of its molecules with a magnetron.
Radiowaves are used in communications by Amplitude modulation and Frequency modulation. The short wave band reflects on the atmosphere of the earth in a phenomenon of Total Internal Reflection. All EMR are subject to the laws of refraction, which we study using lens and visible light.

The picture of the atom as a torroid formed by electrons and a tornado of magnetic force from the proton in the center once conceived can be called a turbo-gyro-oscillator.

I wonder when the 3rd millenium will dawn in the minds of the scientific group.

Thanks for the Snooze....
Edit#1.
OK, sorry. I will answer the question. "Yes". My wife is doing her doctorate (PhD) on Spectrography, Eschelle Grating Sp. , Photovoltaic semiconductors and infrared receivers, quantum well Sp, infrared quantum well Sp. Etc. Same old boring topics.

Back to the Snooze button.
